Over 70 attendees joined us for our successful open age presentation evening at Station Ground the day after the juniors hosted their own well attended event.
The evening kicked off with outgoing skipper James Meredith presenting 3rd XI Player of the Year to Zubair Khan, followed by Ben Coe & Dave Baldock belatedly presenting August Player of the Month to Awrang Khogiani. Their main award being shared by Shakib Rahmani & Andy Daldorph for a glut of 4 wicket hauls and over 600 runs respectively.
In his last engagement as captain, Jake Choules completed the Devon League team’s presentations with Luke Vukusic picking up 1st XI POTY, despite competition from Dan Robbins & Alex Jopling. There was also opportunity to mark George Daldorph’s achievement for the County team.
Women’s Softball presentations followed including with Nic Fice winning Coaches Player & Captain Katherine Harget winning Players’ Player. Nic took her opportunity on the mic by presenting some entertaining joke awards, the highlights being a standing ovation for Bobby Heard’s cocktail making and video footage of Shane Yelverton’s collision with an umpire.
After we broke for food and further refreshment, there were plenty more awards including our Walking Cricket section with Penny and Sallie winning ‘Best Cake’ and Margaret winning the ‘Sorry’ award.
Awrang picked up a second award of the night, winning Mike Denford’s Performance of the Season for a spectacular 90* from 50 balls. Jake Choules won Volunteer of the Year for services to Spond and Imogen Daldorph joined brother George on the Kobi Griggs Young Player of the Year shield.
The packed night also included time for a competitive game of Heads & Tails, a thankful speech from Shane and our final 50/50 draw of the year.
The highlight though was no doubt stalwart Keith Cudby being presented with his well deserved life membership.
