Saturday’s end of season presentation evening saw club legend Keith Cudby awarded with an honorary life membership, the highest honour the club bestows upon an individual. Keith is only the ninth recipient of the award. The rarity with which the award is presented reflects the exceptional commitment and dedication required and is reserved for an individual who has given outstanding service to the club.
An overwhelming majority of current members cannot remember the club without Keith being a part of it, having joined the club in 2000 having been introduced to Jock Spry via former player Richard Gidley. However, Keith has contributed so much more than playing the club and has consistently worked tirelessly behind the scenes, including but not exclusively.
- Leading on shutting the club down for winter and getting work
parties organised to re-open for the following season. - Leading on close season maintenance and repairs.
- Self-appointed Neighbour liaison officer.
- Being a great and necessary bridge between the practical side of
the club and the committee – now heading up the ground team - Tirelessly organising Sunday and Mid-Week friendlies
- Selflessly managing the pavilion, first to tidy up, regularly last one
there to lock up. - Doing the behind-the-scenes jobs such as bins, making sure there
is squash and the tea urn is on. - More recently setting up Walking Cricket which regularly has
double figures attending every week and is still taking place
through September. - Often scores or umpires and always putting in a big shift during
pub comp.
Chair Charles Kislingbury described Keith as “the essential committee and club member. Never seeking acknowledgment or praise he has just quietly and
effectively got on with his business.”
All at the club pass on our congratulations to Keith on his life membership and thank him again for his over 25 years of selfless service to TCC.
